Furosemide
Furosemide (Lasix) is a very potential diuretic (a drug that increases the flow of urine in organism). Furosemide is used in patients with abnormal excessive accumulation of liquids typical for patients with cirrhosis conditions, edemas, heart failure and nephritic syndrome.
Caution should be taken while the patient is on Furosemide therapy because the drug has highly potential diuretic effect by way of blocking salt and liquid absorption in kidneys. Therefore, drastic loss of bodily fluid may result in worsening of patient’s renal condition or even coma.
Keep in mind that Furosemide causes potassium, magnesium and sodium indexes go down which may further result in arrhythmia. Furosemide also increases that of lithium which may lead to lithium intoxication.
Follow your doctor’s prescription advice accurately while taking Furosemide. Do not double-dose and mind that overdose consequences might be fatal.
Store Furosemide at room temperature in tightly closed manufacturer’s container away from the sources of heat and direct insolation.
